Introduction
The purpose of the policy and produres manual is to provide a guide for the operation of the GMS school library media program. This manual will be updated yearly or as changes are made in thelibrary media center. If you have any suggestions or questions, please let me know.
Mission Statements
The mission statement of Geeter Middle School is to provide students with the necessary support and guidance in an academically stimulating environment where all students are encouraged to think critically and perform at high levels.

The mission of the Geeter Middle School Library Media Program is to enrich and support educational programs in the school. It is the duty of the library staff to provide the school community with a wide range of materials on all appropriate levels of difficulty. The library media center program will provide materials and services that will encurage growth in knowledge and that will encourage a love of reading. These materials and services will also help to develop literary, cultural and aesthetic appreciation of the arts and sciences. The library strives to stimulate intellectual curiosity and to establish the habit of lifelong reading and learning.

Goals and Objects of the Geeter Middle School Library
Goals:
To provide materials and services appropriate to the curriculum of the school.
To provide materials and services that meet the information and recreational needs of the learning community.
To provide opportunities for collaboration between the library media specialist and classroom teachers.
To promote information literacy.
To make reading fun and enjoyable for the learing community.

Objectives:
Will use the suggestions of peers, teachers, adminstrations, and other various selection tools to select materials that are appropriate to the curriculum of the school.

Will provide professional materials to help teachers plan lessons that are appropriate to the curriculum of the school (writing instruction books will be purchased for the professional collection, for example).

Will administer a yearly survey to teachers to ensure that I am providing materials and services that meet the information needs of the learning community.

Will create a collection map of the media center collection to assure that materials for lessons are available in the media center for student and teacher use.

Will purchase quality "fun" materials for the recreational needs of the learning community.

Will introduce students and teachers to copyrioght, bibliographic formats, Internet evaluation, etc. throulgh integration of these skills into library lessons.

Library Media Center Hours of Operation
The media center will open at 7:15 am everyday. Students can come and check out books before school and will close at 2:45 everyday except Wednesday. It is open for teachers, students, and parents to use anytime within these hours.
Library Media Center Behavior Policy
The LMC behavior policy is based upon the Geeter Middle School School Wide Rules.
1 We respect others and their property.
2 We keep our hands, feet, and objects to ourselves at all times.
3 We are prepared for class.
4 We are responsible for our own actions.

1 Follow directions the first time they are given.
2 Be kind to books and other resources.
3 Be kind to others.
